The Democratic presidential candidate’s wife Evelyn Yang says her obstetrician-gynecologist sexually assaulted her while she was pregnant with the couple’s first child.
In an interview televised by CNN on Thursday, Evelyn Yang said the assault happened during 2012, and she initially dreaded telling someone. He and 31 other women are now suing the network of doctors and hospitals, saying they conspired and encouraged the crimes.
According to CNN, Yang and 31 other women are now suing Columbia University, where Hadden worked with his colleagues and the doctor himself, saying they “actively concealed, conspired and facilitated” Hadden’s crimes.
The lawsuit claims that, because of a power imbalance and lack of training, medical assistants who served with the doctor knew of the violence but did not intervene, CNN reported.
Hadden refuted the new charges in court papers, according to CNN. According to CNN, University of Columbia and the hospital system are challenging the case on procedural grounds.
In response to a comprehensive list of questions, a university spokesperson told CNN that the allegations are “abhorrent” and they “deeply apologize to those whose trust has been violated.
